Weekend Football Preview

Our friends at Tipstrr have kindly provided us with a preview of this weekend’s Premier League action, along with some tips taken from their range of tipsters.

PREMIER LEAGUE PREVIEW

This week’s Premier League action gets under way with a Saturday lunchtime kick-off between Fulham and Watford, with both teams hoping to bounce back from disappointing results following the international break.

Fulham coach, Slavisa Jokanovic, faces the team that he brought up from the Championship just three seasons ago.

His main priority will be to stem his leaky back line that boasts the worst defensive record in the league, having leaked at least two goals in each of their five league games so far. The Cottagers are perhaps better at showing their attacking capabilities, as in their 4-2 dismantling of Burnley a month ago, when Aleksander Mitrovic’s hat-trick proved he will be a handful for most Premier League defences.

The international break came at the wrong time for Watford, whose 100% start to the season came to an end with their 2-1 home defeat to Manchester United last weekend. If Javi Gracia keeps faith with the same lineup for the trip to Fulham, Watford will become only the fifth team in Premier League history to field the same starting eleven for the opening six games.

That lineup includes the influential Ricardo Pereyra, who will be keen to impress after his creative flair was stifled by United last week, while bustling striker Troy Deeney will hope to build on his record of four goals in his previous two encounters with Fulham.

Watford are seeking back-to-back away wins for the first time since this time last year and tipster OnlyPrem thinks backing Watford to win at 2.87 is the way to go

The Saints go marching in to Anfield

With that game barely finished, Saturday’s 3pm kickoffs see Liverpool welcome Southampton to Anfield, with the chance to gain a steal on joint leaders, Chelsea, who don’t play until Sunday. Liverpool enjoyed another of those glorious European Anfield nights on Tuesday, when Roberto Firmino came off the bench to grab a dramatic stoppage-time winner in their 3-2 win over PSG.

That makes it six straight wins for the Reds, whose 100% start to the Premier League continued last weekend with their most impressive league performance so far, a convincing 2-1 win at Tottenham. Liverpool’s attacking flair has never been doubt, and even without Mohamed Salah yet reaching the form of last season, they continue to score goals for fun, with only two of their last twelve league visitors managing to avoid conceding two or more goals.

Southampton lost 3-0 on last season’s trip to Anfield, and their defence will need to avoid the mistakes that allowed Brighton to battle back from two goals down to grab a late 2-2 draw at St Marys on Monday, a result that prevented the Saints from enjoying back-to-back wins for the first time since May last year.

Southampton have only kept two clean sheets in their last nineteen away league games, and the betting market certainly doesn’t give them much chance of halting that trend on Saturday.

That has not gone unnoticed by our tipster, ItsJustaRoundBall who is backing Liverpool win to nil at odds of 1.80

Beware the bark of the Wolves

Meanwhile, Manchester United entertain Wolves, looking to build on their recent return to form. Seven goals conceded in their opening three games that included defeats to Brighton and Spurs was uncharacteristic for a Jose Mourinho team, but away wins at Burnley and Watford either side of the international break have steadied the boat, while Wednesday’s 3-0 win at Young Boys was a welcome stroll in the park.

United must not underestimate a talented Wolves side, who will be keen to erase the memory of their last topflight season in 2011-12, when they conceded nine goals to United, 4-1 at Old Trafford and 5-0 at Molineux.

They bounced back from their only defeat so far, 2-0 at Leicester City, to force a home draw with champions Manchester City, before enjoying successive 1-0 wins over West Ham United and Burnley either side of the international break. Wolves seem to have found a way to incorporate dogged defending with the inventive play of Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho in midfield and the attacking threat of Raul Jiminez up front.

One of our most experienced Pro Tipsters, Save The Punter, certainly sees the strength of a resurgent Wolves side, and recognises the value in backing Wolverhampton Wanderers  +1.00 Asian Handicap at odds of 1.87

Spurs need to find their rhythm

Saturday’s premier League action concludes at the AMEX Stadium, where Brighton will be hoping to take advantage of Tottenham’s recent woes. Losses at Watford and Liverpool have been offset by ever-impressive home form that has seen them beat Manchester United 3-2, plus 2-2 draws with Fulham and Southampton, both after being 2-0 down.

The evergreen Glenn Murray continues to be at the heart Brighton’s more threatening moments, and he has already notched four goals, including the two late penalties that secured those 2-2 draws.

Tottenham’s three-game winning burst at the start of the season has been overshadowed by their subsequent decline that has included 2-1 defeats to Watford and Liverpool either side of the international break, following by their 2-1 Champion League loss at Inter Milan on Tuesday.

They were outclassed by Liverpool, but blew 1-0 leads in the other two to put them on the brink of four straight defeats for the first time since 2004. The loss of Dele Alli to injury hasn’t helped, but the main cause of concern has been the subdued form of Harry Kane, who overcame his August hoodoo with a couple of goals, but has not found the net in five outings in September.

Opinions among our tipsters are divided on this one, but with Brighton’s continuing home form coupled with Spurs’ woes, Ulrik is backing Brighton +0.75AH at odds of 1.92.
